Land preparation is important to ensure that the field is ready for planting. A well-prepared field controls weeds, recycles plant nutrients, and provides a soft soil mass for transplanting and a suitable soil surface for direct seeding.
Selection of land is an integral part of cultivation of green gram. Before planting it is important to ensure that the field is free from weeds & the previous crop residues because a well prepared field controls weeds, recycle plant nutrients and also softened the soil. Suitable soil for green gram is sandy loam. Water logged soils are not suitable for cultivation. Land must be free from weeds, rocks & debris.
Need to do proper ploughing so that the soil is free of clods (pieces of bricks etc.). Harrowing & levelling should be done to get a fine tilth of the soil.
