Some important things to keep in mind while storage of food grains after harvesting

In today's time, many machines have been developed for cutting and threshing.

For safe storage of grains, scientific method should be adopted so that grains can be protected from rats, insects, moisture, fungus etc. for a long time.

After harvesting, the grains should be dried thoroughly in sunlight before storing. It should not contain more than 10 percent moisture.

Grains should be cleaned before storage.

Fungus is more prone to infection in broken grains. So the broken grains should be separated.

New sacks should be used to fill the grains. The sacks should be immersed in 1 % Malathion solution before filling the used sacks again.

To keep the grain at storage, clean the warehouse and take out the termites and old residues etc. and destroy them. The warehouse should be thoroughly washed with 3 litres per 100 square meter of Malathion solution.

If there are cracks in the walls, floor and ground etc., then close them with cement, brick. Get the broken walls, floor repaired.

Use neem powder to protect the grain from pests. Use zinc phosphide to kill the rodents.

If the pests harms the grain then aluminium phosphide or ethylene dibromide should be used.
